Free Motion Machine Quilting on a Domestic Sewing Machine
Saturday, March 6 10 am to 1 pm Downtown Store ONLY
Fasten your seat belt for this fast paced class that will have you free motion quilting by the end of class.
This class begins with a short trunk show that helps students learn visually what to strive for and what to avoid in their own machine quilting.
The class then moves on to create a hands-on sample that teaches the basics of free motion quilting.
After completing the sample students will begin working on a small wall hanging that incorporates everything that has been taught in class. Some students may finish this in class while others will need to take this project home to finish.
Before you come to class, know how to drop or cover your feeddogs on your sewing machine and install a new Size 12 or Size 14 needle. You will also need the darning foot attachment or hopping foot attachment on your machine, ready to use. Or you can reserve a Janome 6600P to use during class. There are a limited number of these machines available for in-class use.
Bring to class at least two contrasting colors of thread along with several other colors for the final small project including brown, green, black, and orange. Also bring scissors, that new needle (see above), and a pencil for taking notes. A hand out will be provided at the end of class.
Class Fee: $18.00
Kit Fee: $15.00 (plus one package of large safety pins)
(Total: $33.00 plus safety pins)
Class Size: Minimum 6, Maximum 20
Time: 3 Hours

Creative Design Camp for Quilters: Part One
Exercises and Critical Thinking in Basic Design Elements and Principles
Saturdays, April 3, May 1, June 5, July 10, August 14 and September 11
From 10 am to 1 pm Downtown Store ONLY
This class is based on the book, Fearless Design for Every Quilter (see above). During each class, students will be presented with a lesson on a particular design element or principle. The students will then be given a homework assignment to reinforce what has been presented. Students must bring their finished homework back to the following class and present their solution to the rest of the class. Each student will create their own solution and by sharing this solution with the class, everyone benefits from multiple creative ideas, solutions, and discussion. Students will need to provide their own construction materials for each homework assignment which must be constructed outside of class. Fusible construction methods are strongly encouraged for many of the exercises; this is not a techniques class.
Students need to be willing to share their work with the group and both give and receive feedback. Group members will provide feedback on each assignment for each student in attendance. This is meant to be a positive, constructive, and safe environment for all participants to learn and grow in.
Bring to your first class a small sketchbook and/or notebook, pen or pencil, and a desire to explore and grow in a group setting.
Class Fee: $150.00 for six classes that meet once a month
Optional Book to be purchased separately: Fearless Design for Every Quilter by Lorraine Torrence & Jean B. Mills, ISBN: 978-1-57120-576-6.
Class Size: Minimum 6, Maximum 20
Time: 2-3 Hours per session depending on class size
